A Taste of Crete

'A Taste of Crete' was born out of a long love for the island of Crete, its landscape, history, and of course its unique foods.

Cretan food is truly unique, shaped by thousands of years of culinary tradition that stretches back to the ancient Minoan civilisation. This remarkable island is one of the world's rare Blue Zones, where people live longer, healthier lives thanks in large part to their exceptional diet. Cretan cuisine embodies the very essence of the Mediterranean diet, offering key elements that nutritionists and researchers have suggested as fundamental to longevity and wellbeing.

At the heart of this tradition lies an abundance of extra virgin olive oil, wild greens, pulses, and fresh vegetables grown in Crete's mineral-rich soil. The island's herbs - particularly oregano, thyme, and dittany - carry the concentrated flavours of the Mediterranean, whilst locally produced items such as cheeses and honey have been crafted using methods passed down through generations.

These time-honoured elements represent more than sustenance; they're a living connection to ancient traditions that have sustained communities for millennia, proving that the best foods are those rooted in heritage, simplicity, and respect for nature's bounty.
